Coloured hair can add a certain flair to your personality. It’s a good idea to explore some new colours for your hair. And it’s exciting! However, getting your hair coloured is not the end of the story. You have to take good care of it so that it lasts long and looks perfect. This is where most people go wrong and decide against colouring their hair again.

To prevent fading of hair colour and hair damage it is essential to take the right care of coloured hair. If you want to experiment and try out a new look, then colouring your hair might be the perfect thing to do. It will spice up your look. But you must remember that colouring hair involves chemicals and these chemicals can be damaging for the hair. Coloured hair requires a special hair care regime. To maintain healthy and vibrant hair, you have to stick to a good regime. A good regime will help to prevent the hair colour from fading and give a healthy shine without dullness.

Tips to Care for Coloured Hair

A few basics:

-Use shampoos and conditioners specially made for colour treated hair. 

-Use high quality hair products with good ingredients. Using poor quality products could result in permanent damage to your colour treated hair. 

-Use organic beauty products. They are considered better than non organic beauty products. Organic beauty products contain natural ingredients so they’re less harsh on your hair.

Avoid too much heat.

Too much heat can cause damage so avoid using blow dryers and curling irons on your hair. The heat from these tools can lead to damage of hair by causing dryness and breakage. Allow your hair to dry naturally. If you still have to use a blow dryer, keep it on the lowest heat level. And let your hair dry naturally before using a curler.

Avoid more chemicals.

Avoid using any more chemical treatments on your hair as that will severly harm your hair. While the occasional chemical treatment will not cause a problem, it is still best to avoid any further chemical use. Making your hair go through chemical processes one after the other can break your hair. It will also affect the texture and cause problems while styling.

Post-wash care.

After washing, dry your hair with a towel/cloth thoroughly. The more you dry it, the less you have to depend on a blow dryer. And if you still feel the need to use a blow dryer, avoid over drying your hair. Blow dry till hair is almost dry, but not completely dry. Also, while drying, do not rub your hair too vigorously with the towel. Do not comb your hair when it is wet. After it is dry, use a wide toothed comb for combing, this prevents breakage.

Avoid contact with chlorine

Chlorine can be severly damaging for colour treated hair. There are chances that your coloured hair will turn green. Chlorine and other such pool chemicals can be harsh on your hair and make it unmanageable. Hence, always wear a swimming cap on your head if you are going for a swim, to protect your coloured hair.

Avoid Exposure to Sunlight

Excess exposure to sunlight can also be a bad thing for you. Sunlight can fade hair colour and cause it to become brittle, dry and frizzy. One of the best ways to avoid damage to your coloured hair from the sunlight is to cover your hair with a scarf.

One must also remember that even the softest dyes can weaken the hair. Find time to take care of your coloured hair so that it always looks healthy and vibrant. You have to devote time to research and taking good care of your mane.
