It is important to have a good haircare routine. Unfortunately, it is not easy to maintain that routine and continue those efforts. What’s worse? It is easy to get things wrong in your routine. Usually, people follow the same regimes that work for their friends. But, just because it worked for your friend, does not mean it will work for you.
There are plenty of ways to get it wrong. Maybe you’re not using the right products, or you’re overdoing a few things. These things will block you from getting ‘that perfect look’. So read on to find out if you make any of these mistakes.
Using harsh products
Be mindful when choosing your hair products – shampoo, conditioner, styling products and oils. Many people have felt that their hair felt better after they stopped using shampoos. Does this mean shampoos are bad? No! It just means people weren’t choosing the right product. So instead of giving up these products, replace them with more gentle products. You will have to put in the hours for research, but the results on your hair will be worth it.
Skipping the conditioner
Conditioner is just as important as your shampoo. If you don’t use conditioner, there is a good chance that your hair will break off. Plus, if you want to grow your hair out, you CANNOT skip your conditioner.
It replenishes your moisture and promotes good hair health. Plus, your hair will be less prone to tangles. And do not condition your roots. It will only cause hair fall.
Overwashing your hair
Some people would need a hair wash every day to avoid greasiness and oily roots, while some people might only need it twice a week. It all really depends on your hair type. Everyone has different needs and you have to figure out yours. Overwashing will make your scalp produce too much oil, which will end up making your scalp greasier. It can also strip your hair of its natural oils and make it look dull.
Not washing it enough
Hair is… tricky. You can damage it by under washing too. Of course, certain hair types would not mind this. But, you should not leave it unwashed for too long as it can cause hair loss. Not washing it enough can cause sebum buildup. This buildup will block hair follicles and prevent new hair growth. It will also cause itching i.e. further damage to your scalp. Generally, you should aim to wash your hair twice-thrice a week and work around whichever suits your hair better.
Brushing hair too often
Brushing too, like all things, can be harmful when overdone. Brushing your hair is a great way to evenly distribute your natural oils and keep your hair healthy. But, over brushing will cause breakage. P.S. – you have to be gentle while doing it.
Ignoring the scalp
Your scalp is nothing but skin, so it will be clogged if you do not clean it. You have to cleanse and exfoliate your scalp as that will clear your follicles, promote hair growth and a healthy scalp. Plus, it will keep your dandruff woes at bay
Brushing hair when it’s wet
When your hair is wet, it is at its weakest. So stop brushing it when it is wet. Even brushing it slightly can cause breakage. So, instead of a brush, detangle the wet hair with your fingers to get rid of the knots. Or let it air dry naturally and then use a brush or a comb.
